‘Still the economy, stupid’ Trump tipped for 2024 win as Americans say money biggest issue

As the 2024 election looms, both Democrats and Republicans are looking for green shoots of a possible White House win.

Despite Joe Biden’s poor personal polling, Democrats are looking to special elections, where they are winning by margins higher than the President’s in 2020.

‌And Republicans are looking to Donald Trump’s commanding lead over his primary challengers, and a national mood against the Presidency.

But despite these cases, Dr. Roger Gewolb, television presenter and principal at Strategic Advisory Solutions, referenced Bill Clinton’s iconic quote when asked by Daily Express US about what lies ahead in next year’s election.

“It’s the economy, stupid!”

Speaking exclusively to Daily Express US, Dr. Gewolb said: “I hear all this stuff, and read all this stuff. Roe vs. Wade and voting rights, and all kinds of issues.

“Yes they do count more at the grassroots for these local elections, but at the end of the day, I always, always hark back to Bill Clinton: It’s the economy, stupid.

“That’s what they care about in the voting booth, same thing (in the UK). Cost of living crisis. Roe vs. Wade, immigration: They’re all important, they’re all debated, but at the end of the day, the average American … ‘how much money am I gonna be left with after these people have their take?’

“‘Can I send Johnny to school?’ ‘Can we take a holiday?’ ‘Do I have to move?’ ‘Do we have to downsize?’ ‘Can I afford this?’ – That’s what it’s all about.

“As Clinton said, it’s nothing else. That’s what decides the votes.”

According to Gallup Polls, the economy remains the most important issue to Americans.

As of August this year, 31 percent surveyed said economic problems were the most important problem facing the US, with the Government or poor leadership in second place with 22 percent.

Just nine percent said immigration and three percent said abortion. Two percent said healthcare, as well as crime.‌

And a small one percent said the situation with Russia was the top problem for the US.

So continuing his remarks, Dr. Gewolb told Daily Express US that Trump’s time in office will be remembered by voters because of how much money they had.

“Trump put more money in American’s pockets than any president in the last hundred years,” Dr Gewolb said.

“And he delivered on almost everything he said, he’s not a politician, he’s not a BSer… Well he is, that he is, but he’s delivered on almost of his promises.”

Dismissing comparisons to Boris Johnson, who he called a “lifetime Oxbridge PPE professional from-birth politician”, he instead compared Trump to Italy’s Silvio Berlusconi.

“They’re both businessmen, tycoons, they built their empires, they understand consumers and customers, they know how to give customers what they want – these are the guys who can really relate to the public.”

In a gloomy sign for the incumbent President, Dr Gewolb added: “Joe Biden can’t hold a candle to Trump in that area.

“Of the various (Republican) candidates who were in the sandbox, plus (Governor Glenn) Youngkin, some of them have been very successful businessmen, but I don’t know that any of them can match that.

“I’m always convinced at the end of the day, and certainly when I vote, ‘show me the money’.”
