Spain lets residents get in touch with Princess Leonor as Leonormania grips the country

The people of Spain have been given a way to contact Princess Leonor as Leonormania grips the country.

Princess Leonor of Spain recently celebrated her 18th birthday and it marked a big milestone as she begins to work as a senior royal.

And as her profile has soared, residents can now contact her online – but they shouldn’t all expect a personalised response.

Spanish newspaper Ulmita Hora said: “The Spanish Royal Family has recently introduced a new feature on its website that has generated great interest among citizens: the possibility of sending direct messages to Princess Leonor, heir to the throne and an increasingly prominent figure in the country’s public life.”

It said as well as the new online feature on the royal website, it has also updated pictures of the princess and her sister Infanta Sofia.

The page on the royal website says: “Through this form you can send your greetings to HRH. the Princess of Asturias.

“Please note that due to the volume of messages received through this channel, personalised replies will not be sent.”

The Princess of Asturias – as she is formally known – marked her 18th birthday by swearing allegiance to the Constitution before receiving the medals of Congress and the Senate at a formal ceremony in the Spanish Parliament on October 31.

The Spanish Royal Family released a series of throwback snaps of the princess to mark the occasion.

In the images, Leonor can be seen on her first day of school, with the World Cup trophy after Spain’s men’s football team won in 2010, and others with her younger sister Sofia.

The Princess of Asturias has been keeping busy this year as she graduated from UWC Atlantic in Wales last May, where she studied for the International Baccalaureate.

She went on to complete her basic training at an army academy in Zaragoza, where she began a three-year officer’s course.

Royal biographer Carmen Remírez de Ganuza said that “Leonor will need her own narrative” and that she “will have to connect with her own digital generation”.
