Smokers hit with new vape warning after shocking blaze

Shocking image warns smokers after a charging vape caught fire and left an entire room charred.

Essex County Fire and Rescue are calling on vapers to stay by their devices if they’re charging to avoid future blazes.

A bedroom in a town house on Shardelow Avenue, Chelmsford, was left scorched after a vape ignited.

The fire ripped through the bedroom furniture and burnt through the wallpaper causing smoke to pour out of the top windows.

Essex County Fire and Rescue are warning smokers of the risks after the 9am fire on Friday.

Station Manager Nick Singleton said: “Our control room were great on the phone to reassure the residents and advise them how to stay safe while they waited for us. Our advice when you discover a fire in your home is always to get out of the house, stay out and call the fire service.

“If you’re charging any electrical device, we recommend you stay in the room while charging. Don’t charge devices longer than recommended and make sure you use a charger recommended by the manufacturer. If you need to buy a new charger or device, make sure it confirms to the British Standards for fire safety.”
