Sir Keir Starmer suffers humiliation as he's crushed during heavy football defeat

Sir Keir Starmer suffered humiliation while playing football today after a dodgy goalkeeping performance saw his Sunday league side slip to a heavy defeat.

Starmer and his London-based team were defeated 14-8 during the match, which saw him ship two goals while playing between the sticks.

The Labour leader could be seen throwing his hands in the air in frustration as his side were well beaten.

Starmer is known to be a big football fan having played the game since his school days, including for amateur north London side Homerton Academicals.

He supports Arsenal and will be hoping they perform a little better than his side as they take on Liverpool this evening.

When speaking to the LBC radio station in 2022 about his passion for the beautiful game, Starmer said it was his main interest as a child.

He told the radio station: “It has always been and I still play, I played yesterday for 90 minutes.

“But what I love about that is it’s a group of players I’ve known for a long, long time. Nobody gives a stuff what you do for a living.

“There’s a lot of banter, as you can imagine – a lot of comments.”

During that interview, he was also pressed on his thoughts on Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup saying he would not attend.

He replied: “I wouldn’t. I’d love to, but I think that the human rights record is such that I wouldn’t go, and that would be the position of the Labour Party.”
