Singer, 28, 'always happy and smiling' dies after being bitten by spider in his own home

A singer died aged only 28 a few days after he had been bitten in the face by a spider.

Brazilian singer Darlyn Morais died on November 6 of complications arising in the wake of a spider bite.

The young man was bitten on October 31 at his home in the northeastern city of Miranorte, part of the Tocantins state.

The singer’s 18-year-old stepdaughter was also bitten and taken to hospital, where she is currently recovering and remains in stable condition.

The Brazilian artist suffered symptoms for days after being bitten by a likely venomous spider, although which specific type it was is still to be determined.

Mr Morais’ wife Jhullyenny Lisboa Silva told Brazilian news outlet G1 the singer started experiencing body fatigue after being bitten.

The area affected by the bite, she added, “started to darken”, turning the colours typical of bruises.

As his symptoms worsened, Mr Morais shared on social media a closed-up image of his cheek, which showed four dark spots surrounded by purple shadows.

After he developed allergic reactions, Mr Morais was admitted to Palmas General Hospital in Miranorte for treatment.

Health officials are investigating his death to determine the exact cause.

The day after Mr Morais’ death, his family took to his official Instagram account to thank his fans and friends for the tributes shared after news of the tragedy had emerged.

The message read: “The Darlyn Morais family thanks everyone for the messages of affection and support in this moment of so much pain.”

The post shared via Instagram Stories added the account would continue to be managed by Mr Morais’ brother and partner Juninho.

Also on Tuesday, the singer’s family shared a video on Instagram showing dozens of visibly emotional people gathered to sing Mr Morais’ songs and pay tribute to the man.

Mr Morais began his music career aged 15 and became famous as a forró artist, a musical genre popular in northeastern Brazil.

His small band, which performed regularly across the Tocantins as well as the nearby states of Goiás, Maranhão and Pará, included three people – himself, his brother and a friend.

The singer’s cousin, Wesleya Silva, paid tribute to the artist saying: “He was always surrounded by friends and it was always a reason to celebrate for him. Always very happy and smiling with everyone around him. Owner of a giant heart, always helping the people around him.”

The singer leaves behind his wife and teenage stepdaughter as well as a six-year-old girl and a one-year-old year boy.
