A teenager has suffered life-changing injuries after being shot, police say. Officers were called to the Penhill area of Swindon in Wiltshire at about 12.30am today.
A 17-year-old boy sustained potentially life-changing injuries thought to have been caused by a firearm.
He was taken to hospital by air ambulance where he is currently being treated.
One local resident told the Swindon Advertiser: “I knew I heard something, sounded like a bang and then I was woken up by what I thought was a police helicopter going back and forth.
“I just assumed in my half-asleep state that it was a bin falling over as we’ve had a lot of wind and changeable weather lately.”
Detective Chief Inspector Charlotte Tucker said: “We are actively investigating this incident with all the resources at our disposal.
“We would be very grateful to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of this incident and may have seen what happened.
‘We are also appealing to anyone in the area to check CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage from overnight 23rd into 24th April.
“This attack has left a young man with serious injuries and he is currently undergoing hospital treatment.
”Our thoughts are with his family and friends. There is not thought to be any threat to the wider public at this time.”
