Auctioneers raised a few eyebrows among posh salesroom bidders after flogging a second-hand sex doll called Belle alongside hundreds of antiques.
The silicon “companion doll” was described as being in “good overall condition with its original box” when it was sold by auction house Golding Young last week.
The Passion Dolls UK item fetched £100 when it went under the hammer in a historic market town – a snip compared to its recommended retail price of £1,500.
Believed to have had one previous owner, Belle was purchased by a private online bidder in Bourne, Lincs, on Wednesday (13/3).
The doll came with a booklet detailing the “terms and conditions of use” but a jacket worn by the doll to preserve its modesty for promo photos was not included.
The auctioneers said it was consigned on behalf of a private local vendor, who wished to remain anonymous, and it was given no formal estimate pre-sale.
The saucy item was sold alongside hundreds of other antiques – including vintage watches, books, paintings, coins, glassware and jewellery.
Starting the bidding at £50, auctioneer William Gregory told bidders: “Don’t forget, the more you pay, the more you will like it.”
After the sale, he added: “The nature of our profession is that you never know what you will see on a day to day basis and that is what makes the job fun.”
“The sale of this lot brought an interest from many groups of individuals.”
The firm’s managing director, Colin Young, of Bargain Hunt fame, had earlier shared the lot on his social media account ahead of the sale.
Alongside a photo of the adult doll, he wrote: “Anyone else as passionate about #auctions as Golding Young?”
One web user asked “well loved?” to which Mr Young replied: “Who isn’t?”
Another joked: “This is going to blow up in your face.”
Passion Dolls UK advertise Belle as being 5ft 3ins, weighing 7 stone and with a light tan skin colour and an E-cup bust.
It boasts her “intimate areas” have an “ultimate internal realistic feel which will make your senses think its the real thing….or better.”
