Sheffield United Women's Maddy Cusack dies aged 27 as tributes pour in for 'popular' star

Sheffield United have announced that women’s player Maddy Cusack has died at the age of 27. The Premier League club released a statement on Thursday confirming that their player and marketing executive Cusack had tragically passed away on Wednesday, with tributes made to the ‘popular’ footballer.

Cusack had been with the club since 2019 and made over 100 appearances for the Blades’ women’s team. She also worked as a marketing executive within the club.

Described as a ‘valued colleague’ by the Yorkshire club, she moved over from the Sheffield United Community Foundation to join Sheffield United in 2021 to help their marketing department while playing part time for the club, who currently play in the Women’s Championship.

A club statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, read: “Sheffield United Football Club is devastated to report the sad news of the passing of Maddy Cusack. The Club and Maddy’s family would appreciate a period of privacy and will not comment further at this sad time.”
