Sewage tipped to provide permanent solution to UK salad supply crisis

President of the National Farmers’ Union, Minette Batters, said that it was an absolute anomaly that the Royal Botanical Gardens, as important as they are, had been able to access the Government Energy and Trade Intensive Industries scheme, but people growing the country’s food hadn’t been able to.

She told Sky News: “It just seems absolutely bizarre. It would have gone a long way to preventing the situation of shortages from Morocco and Spain affecting our market; we would have been able to produce a lot more here.”

A Government spokesperson responded to the claims, saying Sunak has helped businesses during winter with nearly £6billion in support, allowing some businesses to pay roughly half of their estimated wholesale energy expenses.
