Several dead and injured as two US military helicopters crash

Many people are feared dead and several more injured as two US military helicopters crashed into each other on Wednesday night. The major incident took place just outside Fort Campbell grounds in Trigg County, Kentucky, at around 10pm local time.

Details are forthcoming about the exact toll, but Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear tweeted “fatalities are expected”.

The two HH60 Blackhawks from the 101st Airborne Division were conducting a training exercise when they crashed.

Fort Campbell officials added: “The status of the crew members are unknown at this time.

“The command is currently focused on caring for the servicemembers and their families.

“More information will be released as it becomes available. The incident is under investigation.”

A person about a half mile away from the crash told local outlet WKDZ Radio he heard “two booms” last night.

Others reported seeing several helicopters flying near the site in recent days.

The East Golden Pond Fire Department helped to extinguish fires.
