'Secret door' spotted in Antarctica and internet believes it's Hitler's 'Nazi bunker'

Google Maps users believe they have found a “Nazi bunker” after spotting a hole hidden in Antarctica – where they suggest Hitler may have survived the war.

The supposed ‘door’ was spotted by an eagle-eyed Facebook user, who shared a screenshot to the social media platform on 30th July.

The baffling image from Google Maps shows a shadowed, square-shaped mark resembling an entranceway hidden in the east of the vast Antarctic ice sheet.

Conspiracy theorists were quick to take a stab at what the supposed door could be used for, with plenty believing that it could be a secret base for the government or even a Nazi bunker.

Suggestions that it could be home to a fascist hideaway likely pay homage to the popular online conspiracy theory that the Nazis survived after the war in a hidden base in Antarctica.

The German expedition to Antarctica in 1938 – an attempt to source their own whale oil – has been causing a lot of contention amongst conspiracy theorists since 1947.

The most popular theories suggest war criminals constructed a huge military base beneath the ice during their month in the Arctic, where the Nazi elite supposedly survived in the aftermath of the war.

Meanwhile, others suggested that the ominous shape could be home to other fabled beings, such as the Abominable Snowman or giants due to the size of the ‘doorway’.

Some even compared the Arctic entrance to the mysterious photograph of what appeared to be an ‘alien door’ on Mars in May 2022 – which NASA later claimed was just a rock formation.

The image of the bizarre ‘entrance’ in Antarctica was shared with the caption, ‘doorway into the ice’ and racked up more than 1,600 likes, comments, and shares on Facebook.

One said: “There’s a Nazi base in there somewhere.” A second agreed, saying: “I thought they were all in Argentina? Antarctica would be a much more suitable hideout.”

A third added: “Interesting. So, this may be the entrance to a world we still don’t know beyond Antarctica.”

Another said: “Clearly you’ve found the home of an Abominable Snowman!”

Meanwhile, others were more skeptical, suggesting that the supposed ‘doorway’ is likely just a simple hole in the ice.

One said: “An icefall is an unlikely door spot.” A second agreed, adding: “Sometimes a hole is just a hole.”
