Over 40 schools are set to close tomorrow as the south of England braces for Storm Ciarán.
A fresh bout of wind and heavy rain has made landfall in the UK with “danger to life” amber weather warnings issued for Thursday (November 2).
Two amber warnings, the second highest level of alert, are in place for parts of the south coast of England, together with further yellow rain warnings, the lowest level, meaning some disruption could be on the way.
More than 40 schools have closed in Southampton, with the city’s council stating: “In anticipation of the severe weather expected as a result of Storm Ciarán, we are advising schools in the city to close in order to ensure the safety of staff, pupils and parents.
“However, some schools may decide to remain open.”
Other schools in Hampshire and neighbouring Dorset have also announced full or partial closures. Parents have been advised by councils in the south to check the websites of their children’s schools.
