Schoolgirl, 7, dies following hit-and-run motorbike crash with boy, 14 arrested

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested following the hit-and-run death of a seven-year-old girl, West Midlands Police has said.

Police said today that officers were called to a road in Walsall on the night of Thursday, July 27, where the girl was found to have been hit by a motorcycle.

The boy was arrested and remains in custody, the service said in a statement, but police are yet to pin any blame for the incident, which happened at 7pm yesterday.

They have called for people to come forward and assist in investigations as detectives work to locate the motorbike.

The vehicle is blue and black, the statement added, with ongoing enquiries working to find the exact make and model.

Serious Collision Investigation Unit Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes said the incident was an “absolutely tragic event”.

He said: “We have still to recover the motorbike involved and I know someone out there in the local community knows where the bike is.

“I now need that community to come together and work with me.

“This is not about protecting people, this is about doing the right thing.

“As such I would urge anyone with any information, however large or small, to make contact with us.

“This is a heart-breaking situation that no family should ever go through and my thoughts are with the family of this young girl.”
