School suddenly closes after 'threat' is made and police called in

A school just north of Manchester has been forced to shut following a “threat” made this morning. Police were called to Holy Family RC & CE College on Pot Hall, Wilton Grove, at around 10am, following a report of a “threat made towards the school”.

Students have been sent home with “enquiries ongoing”, as the authorities remain on the scene.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “At around 10am today (Monday 12 June 2023), officers were called to a report of a threat made towards Holy Family RC and CE college in Wilton Grove, Heywood.

“Officers have attended and enquiries are ongoing. The school has closed as a precaution and is expected to re-open as normal tomorrow.”

This isn’t the first time in recent weeks that a British school has had to shut its doors due to a possible threat to pupils’ safety.

On May 26 a school in Shetland was forced to close and an explosive ordnance disposal team was called in.

In a statement, Shetland Islands Council said: “We can confirm an incident at Scalloway Primary School this morning involving historic ordnance.

“Staff and pupils have now left the building and the school is now closed. We’re grateful to Police Scotland and HM Coastguard for their prompt response.”
