Saudi snooker event embarrassed as hardly any fans turn up for opening ceremony

O’Sullivan and the other headline acts take to the stage on Tuesday when the quarter-finals begin, though the Rocket was spotted looking around an empty venue while the anthem was played.

He was then interviewed alongside Brecel, though neither player would play that day. “It’s a great event, brilliant venue,” the Rocket said. “Obviously done a fantastic job so all the players are excited to get going.

“I love the Middle Eastern culture so it’s great to be here and enjoy your time away from the table, that’s always important and makes you enjoy the event much more.”

Brecel then added: “I’m just happy to be here as a world champion and I am really looking forward to it.”
