Sandro Tonali 'faces maximum three-year ban' after admitting betting on his own team

Sandro Tonali is facing a three-year worldwide ban from football after admitting to betting on AC Milan matches while still playing for the club. Tonali is likely to serve a lesser ban for his help with the investigation but will face strict punishment for his conduct.

The 23-year-old was one of the players named in an Italian football betting probe last week and was withdrawn from the national squad ahead of their 3-1 defeat to England on Tuesday night. On the same day as the game, Tonali admitted to betting on AC Milan matches while he was on the books for the club – including fixtures he played in.
