Sadiq Khan humiliated in surge of fake ULEZ signs playing Wombles and porn

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has been humiliated after fake ULEZ signs were installed with QR codes that led motorists to fake payment sites playing The Wombles theme tune and pornography.

Hertfordshire County Council said it had removed several signs which had been put up in Rickmansworth and Croxley Green.

Some drivers were shocked to discover adult content rather than a payment site when they scanned the QR codes on the signage.

Following the incident, the council has reminded the public that there are no ULEZ zones in Hertfordshire.

MyLondon reported that Councillor Phil Bibby said in a statement: “Hertfordshire’s stance on the mayor’s ULEZ remains the same.

“We will not permit TfL signs in the county and believe that TfL should redraw the boundary inwards and warn motorists of the impending zone inside London.

“If it was all fun that would be great, we have a great sense of humour in this country and our residents would have a giggle, but they’re not.

“We don’t want ULEZ signs on our county roads, so if you do see one the chances are it’s a scam sign, it shouldn’t be there.”

Cllr Roberts added that a few residents had fallen for the fake payment scam and they “are furious when it happens”.

The latest ULEZ controversy comes just hours after it was revealed that the scheme brought in around £26m in the first month after it was launched.

In a statement, Sadiq Khan said: “I’ve always said that the decision to expand the Ulez was very difficult, but a month on from the expansion we can already see that it is working.

“This new data shows 95 per cent of vehicles seen driving in London on an average day now comply with our air quality standards – a 10 percentage point increase since I began to consult on the Ulez expansion in May 2022. This will make a huge difference to the lives and health of Londoners.”
