Rugby player's crude joke about Queen Elizabeth that got him thrown out of the Palace

Former Australian rugby star Jeremy Paul revealed all about his encounter with the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2004, with one crude joke leading to him being kicked out of Buckingham Palace.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, co-hosted by the Queen’s grandson-in-law Mike Tindall, the New Zealand born rugby player was explaining to Her Late Majesty why one of his teammates was carrying around a stuffed kangaroo.

He told her: “He’s got to hold it 24/7, and we steal it off him and go and hold it for ransom”, which she apparently found so hilarious one of her media team approached Mr Paul and asked him what he had said to make her laugh so hard.

According to Mr Paul, the woman claimed the Queen had not laughed like that “in over a decade”, with him then joking with her that he had said: “I gave her my room key.”

The boldness of his joke was enough to for them to tell him to “get out”, even though some in the comments section underneath the interview post on TikTok believed Queen Elizabeth would have seen the funny side.

Richard Griffin said one of his favourite stories about the monarch happened when they were walking at her Scottish estate and bumped into two Americans who happened to be on a walking holiday.

It was immediately obvious that the visitors “did not recognise the Queen” and they spoke to her as if she was a regular passer-by, much to her delight.

The tourists asked the Queen where she lived, to which she replied: “I live in London, but I’ve got a holiday home on the other side of the hills.”

As the Queen revealed she had been visiting the area for about 80 years, the oblivious tourists asked if she had ever met the royal during the many holidays she spent there.

Her Late Majesty then mischievously replied: “Well I haven’t, but Dick here meets her regularly.”

Mr Griffin then concluded his story with: “Then we swapped places and I took a picture of them with the Queen and I never let on.”

He added that his former boss joked she would loved to be there when the couple found out who they had really met.
