Royal fans rage at Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz for 'snubbing' Princess Kate at Wimbledon

Royal fans on social media were left outraged after Princess Kate appeared to be ‘snubbed’ by other famous faces while watching the men’s singles final from the Royal Box at Wimbledon last weekend.

The future Queen was spotted greeting esteemed actors – and husband and wife duo – Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz, however while Kate was seen standing to chat to them the pair remained in their seats.

Daily Mail Diary Editor Richard Eden expressed his anger at the perceived rudeness on Instagram, as he explained to his followers that the actors should have got to their feet as a mark of respect.

Underneath a picture of the meeting, he wrote: “This photograph makes me uneasy. While there may not have been space for Rachel Weisz to curtsy or Daniel Craig to bow, shouldn’t they have at least stood up to greet the Princess of Wales?

“Craig could have even gone mad and removed his sunglasses.”

Fellow actor James Norton also met Kate on the same occasion and he stood up to greet her, with the Princess looking thrilled to chat to him.

Mr Eden’s views caused something of a clash online, with many taking his side and agreeing that the stars should have gotten up as a matter of politeness.

One follower commented: “I was thinking the same when I saw her shake their hands. Stand up man!”

Another person wrote: “They didn’t stand up to greet the King of Spain….James Bond needs to learn some basic etiquette rules”, while a third added: “Total lack of manners and/or awareness.”

Yet some speculated that she may have asked them to remain seated, while others reprimanded Mr Eden for his strong response to Mr Craig and Ms Weisz.

One said: “Behave Richard. There’s also pictures of Prince William and Prince George chatting who Daniel, who remained seated. I really don’t think they were too fussed.”

Mr Eden told the Mail’s Royals section: “Even if you’re Hollywood royalty, it would be basic courtesy to stand up when someone comes over to talk to you, whoever they are. When that person is our future queen, it’s even more important.

“I understand that, these days, people tend to bow and curtsy only for the monarch. I think that’s a shame. In my opinion, they should extend the same courtesy to our future queen.

“It’s certainly not a mistake that James Bond would have made when he was on His Majesty’s Secret Service.”
