Royal fan whips up King Charles 'sausage finger’ sandwiches to mark Coronation

Royal enthusiasts are whipping up creative snacks to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, including a “sausage finger” sandwich in honour of the monarch’s unusual digits.

Charles himself has joked about his porky fingers in the past but has never disclosed the cause.

A GP told the Daily Mail that the swelling could be a symptom of water retention which can be caused by numerous health conditions.

“This condition arises due to inflammation and can be a result of arthritis, multiple bacterial infections or even TB,” said Dr Chun Tang.

“Other possibilities include high salt levels, allergic reactions, medicinal side effects, injury and autoimmune disease.”

Regardless, since the King’s uniquely plump hands have garnered such attention – at one point ‘sausage fingers’ was the seventh most-searched term on Google – some royal fans have decided to create a snack in their honour.

One Twitter user shared an image of his mum’s bizarre creation, the New York Post reports.

“Just woke up to this absolute beauty mum spent most of the night creating, pretty sure it’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen,” they wrote. “He even has a ring on one of his sausage fingers!”

“We’ll be making our way to London today to camp out over night hoping to get a glimpse tmrw.”

A relaxed-looking Charles went on a walkabout in The Mall on the eve of the coronation on Friday with the Prince and Princess of Wales, whose son Prince George will be one of the King’s Pages of Honour.

During the surprise event Kate described the coronation, which will also see Queen Camilla crowned, as a “great moment for celebration” and when quizzed about her children replied they were “Excited, a bit nervous obviously with a big day ahead – can’t wait actually”.

Not everyone is excited for the pomp and pageantry, however. A Cambridge pub is hosting a “not bothered” coronation party on Saturday as a “respectful antidote to monarchy madness”.

As the country was gearing up for the big day, the Sir Isaac Newton pub wanted to “do something a little bit different” to mark the occasion, assistant manager Shelley Turner told the PA news agency.

Speaking inside the traditional English pub, Ms Turner said the staff had put up “happy generic evening” bunting and erected a cardboard cut-out of Sir David Attenborough because “he really should be king”.

Ms Turner explained: “We noticed that everyone was kind of doing the same thing for the coronation and after speaking to customers, some of them would say, ‘Oh, I’m not that bothered’.

“Not everyone’s so excited about the monarchy so let’s give the rebels a bit of a party as well.”
