Royal Family will continue Queen’s traditional ‘Christian aspect’ over the festive period


For the first Christmas without Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, the Royal Family are set to carry on the late Queen’s “Christian aspect” tradition. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, royal expert Marlene Koenig, who is internationally recognized for her knowledge on British and European royalty, spoke on the “extremely difficult” Christmas ahead for the family.

Speaking of the late Queen, Ms Koenig said the family have lost a “matriarch, mum, grandma, great-granny, she’s not there this year and she’s been a main stay of their lives.”

She added: “The whole purpose of the Christmas story, the birth of Jesus, is something [that] the Queen always referred to in her Christmas message.

“The Christian aspect of Christmas, the birth of Christ.”

Ms Koenig added: “I think it will be difficult but, that said, they are getting together at Sandringham.

All members of the Royal Family are expected to visit the royal estate at Sandringham on Christmas Day, minus the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their two children.

Among the family will be the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children. Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Prince Louis, who is now aged four, will reportedly join his family on the infamous walk from Sandringham House to St Magdalene’s Church for the first time.

George and Charlotte, then six and four, attended the walk in 2019 for the first time.

Earlier this week, the Royal Family’s plans for the festive period were announced.

Buckingham Palace releaed a brief statement, which read: “Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort accompanied by Members of the Royal Family will attend the Morning Service on Christmas Day at Sandringham Church, on Sunday 25th December 2022.”
