Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry set to return to UK weeks after dash to see King Charles

Prince Harry is tipped to return to the UK later in the spring for a service to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which he founded in 2014.

The Duke of Sussex rushed back to his home country earlier this week for just a one-day trip after learning that his father King Charles had been diagnosed with cancer.

He was able to spend half an hour in a private meeting with the King before the latter left London for Sandringham, with Harry spending the night in a hotel before flying back to California the next day.

Now in May he is expected to travel back for the anniversary celebrations at St Paul’s Cathedral, giving him another opportunity to possibly patch things up with his family.

It comes as the UK government have announced a multi-million pound bid to see the Games hosted in Birmingham in 2027, a scheme supported by the Ministry of Defence and the Royal British Legion.

Johnny Mercer, the minister for veterans’ affairs and leading the bid, said: “It feels like the right time and the right place. The biggest power of recovery has always been in sport, has always been in Invictus and the Duke of Sussex led the way when he set these Games up ten years ago.

“It feels like a natural rounding of the circle to come back to the UK and we’re going to do everything we can to win the bid.”

Another source close to the project added: “Harry has indicated that he is comfortable coming back for a British-based Invictus Games and we understand that the Games have always had the support of the rest of the Royal Family.”
