Royal Family LIVE: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could become 'royals for hire'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be forced to become “royals for hire” in order to finance their lifestyle in Montecito, as royal aides reportedly fear that the couple may yet strike new entertainment deals.

This week the Duke and Duchess of Sussex posed with Paramount CEO Brian Robbins on the red carpet in Jamaica at the premiere of the new film Bob Marley: One Love.

It later emerged that Harry and Meghan were invited by Mr Robbins, travelled on the same private jet and shared a hotel with executives from Paramount Pictures.

This has led some to speculate that Paramount may be the next brand on the list for the couple to sign up with, although no formal deal has yet been struck.

Harry and Meghan will be hoping it is more of a success than their partnerships with Netflix and Spotify, with the former deal due to expire next year and no confirmation yet of a renewal.

Last summer Spotify and the couple’s Archewell Audio also announced they had parted ways after producing just one series of Meghan’s podcast Archetypes together.

Harry and Meghan’s rather large outgoings, such as the mortgage on their multi-million dollar mansion in Montecito and approximately £3 million per year for round-the-clock security, could be putting pressure on them to forge new partnerships.

While the Duke is believed to have been left a substantial sum of money by his late mother Princess Diana, and an inheritance from the late Queen Elizabeth, the Sussexes have made it clear they desire to live financially independently from the royals.
