Royal Family LIVE: Meghan Markle feared she'd be upstaged by Victoria Beckham, author says

Meghan Markle didn’t want to share the spotlight with Victoria and David Beckham during her first international royal tour, it has been claimed.

Royal author Tom Bower alleged that in October 2018, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were undertaking their first-ever international royal tour as a married couple, Prince Harry kept a distance between himself and the celebrity couple despite them having flown to Australia with their sons Cruz and Romeo to support the Invictus Games.

The author wrote in The Sun: “The reason for the distance was Meghan, the newly married Duchess of Sussex.

“She wanted no competition in the media from David, and especially not from his wife, Victoria.”

The Duchess of Sussex, Mr Bower continued, seemed not prepared “to tolerate anything flattering regarding the Beckhams” to appear in the media.

While Meghan and Harry weren’t seen with the former footballer, who attended Invictus events and supported the initiative during his Australian stay, the organisation created by the Duke mentioned David’s presence as an ambassador of the Games in a long message shared online at the time. Victoria was not snapped at the Games, but is believed to have also flown Down Under with her family.

Posh and Becks had built a good relationship with the Sussexes over the previous months, having become neighbours in Oxfordshire and attended the Royal Wedding in May 2018.

Mr Bower’s claims come after reports of a more recent feud between the Beckhams and the Sussexes, which would have ultimately soured the relations between the couple.
