Royal Family LIVE: Meghan and Harry 'can't show how upset they are' after Emmy snub

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be “unhappy” their Netflix series has not been nominated for an Emmy, but won’t show it, a royal commentator has said.

Directed by Liz Garbus, Harry & Meghan smashed the streaming giant’s record for the biggest documentary debut with more than 81.6 million hours watched within four days of its airing in December last year.

However, despite its success, the documentary hasn’t been nominated for a Emmy awards, after nominations were announced this week.

The Emmys snub will have surprised some, who had tipped the docu-series for a nomination and eventual triumph at the awards, which honour the best in prime time, US television.

Mark Boardman, a showbiz writer and media commentator, told Daily Express US before the nominations were announced: “There is definitely every chance there is a win for Harry, Meghan, and Netflix and I am 100 per cent confident it will get nominated.

“I have looked at all of the possible categories and it is the most high-profile documentary series.”

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, said: “Meghan and Harry will concentrate on this and make it a positive, however irritated they might be not to be in the Emmy nominations.”

The lack of a nomination also comes after the couple’s multi-million pound deal with Spotify came to an abrupt end.

Ms Seward told the Mirror: “They are having a run of bad luck in their working life. But ironically as long as they concentrate on delivering personal stuff instead of more serious work, people will be interested.”

“They have built a gilded cage of expectation around themselves from which it will be hard to escape.”
