Royal Family LIVE: Major A-listers deal Harry and Meghan Netflix blow as they 'tank' in US

The release of the Beckham documentary has seen the noughties it couple spike in popularity, overtaking the Sussexes.

The new show has proved a Netflix documentary can prove more successful for some than others.

Beckham, a series following David’s rise to football stardom, has been among Netflix’s top watched since its release at the start of October and is putting Posh and Becks back on the map.

And it has delivered a blow to the already tense relationship between David and Victoria Beckham and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Although it was watched by fewer people in its first week than the Harry & Meghan, 59 million hours versus 82 million hours, Beckham seems to be having a bigger ripple effect among its audience.

Google Trends data shows that the release of the sporting icon’s documentary has seen a massive spike in associated searches, outdoing the minor jump in interest that accompanied the Harry & Meghan series.

And on Rotten Tomatoes, Beckham has an average audience score of 98 percent. Harry & Meghan’s sits at 19 percent.

But according to a royal commentator: “The duke and duchess’ soul-baring and TV emoting saw their US favourability absolutely tank, and in only a matter of weeks.”

Prince Harry fell 45 points in public opinion and Meghan 36 between December 2022 and January 2023.

It prompted headlines like “The More Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Say, the Less Americans Like Them” in Newsweek.

The outperformance by the Beckham series follows a report from the Daily Mail in July claiming that the friendship between the couples was over after a “tense phone call” and finger-pointing.

David was “absolutely furious” after learning the Sussexes suspected he and Victoria were leaking stories about them.
