Royal Family LIVE: King Charles 'to hold summit with Kate and William' over Firm's future

King Charles is set to “hold a summit” at Balmoral with the most senior members of the Royal Family to outline their roles and discuss how the monarchy will move forward, according to a source.

His Majesty will meet with Queen Camilla, Prince William and Princess Kate to outline his vision for the Firm’s future, which is thought to include a heavy focus on the Commonwealth.

A source told The Mirror: “His Majesty is very clear. The Commonwealth must be at the very heart of his reign. He sees it as his utmost duty to fulfil the sincere wish of his late mother, that one of his central roles must be to ensure not only the survival but the robustness (of the organisation).”

According to the source the King is hoping to capitalise on his son and daughter-in-law’s “star quality” to help boost popularity for the royals.

Among the topics up for discussion will be foreign travel and engagements, with Charles set to make his first Commonwealth visit to Kenya in the next few weeks.

Kenya is a country of great significance for the family, as that is where then-Princess Elizabeth was in 1952 when she was informed of the death of her father George VI, and that she had become Queen.

A senior civil servant told The Mirror of Charles: “(he) hopes to use the symbolism tied into his mother’s legacy to offer a hand of friendship, which might get harder as the years go by.”

Next year it is thought the King will visit Canada and Australia, with growing anti-monarchy sentiment stirring in the latter.
