Royal Family LIVE: Kate and William's Windsor move would prove 'a headache' for King

Kate, Princess of Wales, and Prince William don’t want to move out of Adelaide Cottage, a source has claimed. Dismissing rumours the Prince and Princess of Wales are waiting for Prince Andrew to move out of the Royal Lodge to take hold of the Windsor mansion, a source claimed to Page Six the family are “extremely happy” at Adelaide Cottage, a more modest home than the Duke of York’s.

This is likely good news for the monarch, as a move could prove a costly security headache for King Charles, multiple sources added according to the US publication.

While Adelaide Cottage enjoys the police protection provided for Windsor Castle, the Lodge falls outside of this perimeter.

As he is no longer a member of the working Royal Family, Prince Andrew’s security is being paid for privately.

On the contrary, taxpayers would likely be required to foot the bill for Kate and William’s security detail if the Waleses moved into the Royal Lodge.

As King Charles has made clear his reign will focus on a slimmer version of the Royal Family, a similar issue could create friction with the public.

Kate and William moved with their children to Windsor’s Adelaide Cottage in the late summer of 2022.

While they retained Kensington Palace as their office and Anmer Hall as their countryside residence, the family have made Berkshire their main base, with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis going to school in the area.
