Two Coldstream Guards that were set to start their rehearsals for King Charles III’s Coronation failed a drugs test on Monday. The duo were found to have cannabis and cocaine in their systems and are now facing losing their jobs. According to The Sun the Army said: “We do not tolerate drug abuse.”
Dress rehearsals for the historic ceremony, the first of its kind since 1953, started this week.
This comes as a minimum of 40 guards were left stranded in Kenya, after the RAF jets due to pick them up were banned from flying over war-torn Sudan, raising the spectre of them missing the Coronation.
To get around the problem a civilian flight was chartered.
The Army said: “None will miss their duties for the Coronation.”
The high-level Coldstream Guards are famous for their red tunics and bearskins, which they’ll wear during the Coronation of their Colonel-in-Chief on May 6.
The two soldiers in question were caught consuming drugs at Victoria Barracks in Windsor, which is a short distance from Windsor Castle itself.
“Personnel caught taking drugs should expect to be discharged.”
