Royal Family 'less relevant' as vast majority of Americans miss Queen Elizabeth II

King Charles has taken a hit as the vast majority of Americans wish Queen Elizabeth II was still head of the Royal Family, according to new exclusive polling for Daily Express US.

On September 8 last year, Britain lost her longest reigning monarch when Queen Elizabeth II died at 96 years of age.

The monarch, who ruled for 70 years, was mourned by the public in the UK and around the world.

Now, polling done for Daily Express US shows that Americans were also mourning the loss of the Queen.

When asked “Do you wish the late Queen Elizabeth was still head of the British Royal Family?” an overwhelming majority of 91 percent of those surveyed said yes.

In a blow for King Charles, when asked “Is the British Royal Family less relevant since the death of the Queen?” 59 percent agreed that it was.

The poll – conducted by the Democracy Institute – surveyed 1,500 likely American voters at random via both landline and cell phones.

King Charles ascended to the throne upon his mother’s death and his Coronation was held on May 6 of this year.

The first year of his reign has been marked with some controversy as his son Prince Harry and the Duke’s wife Meghan Markle released several media projects that took aim at the Royal Family.

In December, three months after the Queen’s death, the couple released a Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan which detailed the couple’s relationship, marriage and eventual split from the Firm.

However, the project that is said to have devastated the relations between Prince Harry and his father was the Duke’s tell-all memoir Spare.

The book took aim at Charles’s wife Queen Camilla and detailed the alleged falling out between Prince Harry and his brother William.

As the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death approaches it’s sure many Britons – and Americans – will be thinking of Britain’s longest reigning monarch.
