Royal Family Christmas: What to expect this year as the Firm heads to Sandringham

King Charles and his family celebrate Christmas at Sandringham House each year, just a three-hour drive from London. Planning begins a year in advance, and with Christmas a few days away, the Royal Family is gearing up for the festivities.

The guest list has been confirmed, with King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince William, Princess Kate, Queen Camilla, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, Prince Beatrice and Prince Eugenie, who will be joined by some of their spouses, children, and grandchildren.

The Royal Family arrives at Sandringham in order of rank with less senior royals arriving first. King Charles will arrive last.

Christmas will be different this year and it’s the first time Queen Camilla’s family has been invited. Lunch will be moved to the ballroom to accommodate the growing guest list.

But, other than that, the Royal Family will continue to follow long-held traditions.

The family will likely feast on kippers and kedgeree for breakfast and roast turkey with all the trimmings for Christmas lunch while dinner will feature a variety of buffet-style meats and cheeses.

Noticeably absent from the guest list are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and it’s thought they will likely be spending Christmas in California with their children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet – and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland.

This is the fifth year in a row that Harry hasn’t gone home for Christmas. In 2019, the Sussexes released a statement, saying, “Having spent the past two years at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland.”
