Royal chef shares Queen Elizabeth II's favourite food and it is so relatable

Queen Eliabeth II likely sampled some of the finest cuisine in the world during her 96 years on the planet – including 70 years on the throne.

But despite having tasted all sorts of marvellous dishes, her favourite food might surprise you.

In conversation with HELLO!, former royal chef Darren McGrady spilled the beans on the late Queen’s eating habits.

He revealed that the monarch was not much of a foodie and had a practical approach to food, “eating to live rather than living to eat”. She also tended to go for mainly traditional British or French food.

But as for her guilty pleasures, Queen Elizabeth II may have been more like the rest of the population than we might have suspected.

He said: “For a main course she loved game, things like Gaelic steak, fillet steak with a mushroom whisky sauce, especially if we did it with venison.”

She was also a great lover of fish: “For a first course she loved the Gleneagles pâté, which is smoked salmon, trout and mackerel.”

The sustainable royal liked to enjoy ingredients from the estate so she would tuck into the salmon from the River Dee, Balmoral – “it was one of her favourites”.
