Roy Keane 'not happy' with Marcus Rashford over Man Utd star's revelation about family

Roy Keane has taken issue with Marcus Rashford’s interview with The Players’ Tribune earlier this week, during which he addressed his critics and those doubting his commitment to Manchester United. Rashford has been accused of deflecting criticism over his performances this season by speaking of the “sacrifices” he has made to make it at the club.

“When a player comes out, the bit I wouldn’t be happy about is when he is talking about the sacrifices he’s made, his family has turned down money financially,” Keane told Sky Sports.

“Listen, the kid is doing alright. He’s doing well, and it’s worked out well for everybody. But when you’re at a big club like Manchester United, and you speak to fans who go to games every single game, home and away, and a lot of them are saying the same thing.

“So, maybe Marcus also has to reflect, look back and go, ‘Maybe there are some times when I’m not closing people down’.

“But he has other strengths in his game. Sometimes, it’s very easy to criticise a player, but also because he has high expectations because of the last season or two when he scored lots of goals.

“So it’s a little bit of a compliment towards him, and Man United want to see more of it. There’s nothing wrong with defending yourself.

“But if there are people close around you saying, ‘well, sometimes, you maybe need to do a bit more’, there is nothing wrong with that. He’s learning, and as a top player, there’s always improvement to get better.”
