Ronnie O'Sullivan 'struggling' and 'not getting any enjoyment' despite snooker success

Ronnie O’Sullivan has revealed that he is ‘not getting any enjoyment’ from his snooker at the moment, despite clinching his eighth Masters title last week. The Brit progressed into the quarter-finals of the World Grand Prix on Thursday, but the victory has not changed his dissatisfaction with his own game and talk of retirement has resurfaced once more.

O’Sullivan continued his impressive form with a victory over Zhou Yuelong in Leicester, with breaks of 67, 107, 50 and 90 helping him to a 4-3 success. The win takes the 48-year-old one step closer to his third Grand Prix title and has won 11 matches in a row.

However, despite the win, O’Sullivan was far from pleased with his performance. Instead, the world No. 1 revealed that he is generally unhappy competing and publicly questioned whether it may be the right time for him to retire.

O’Sullivan told ITV4: “I can’t fathom it out. I’ve got to really consider whether I can carry on feeling how I’m feeling out there – I just don’t get any enjoyment from the way I’m hitting the ball. I feel like it’s just hard work, I haven’t a clue where the balls are going, and a lot of it’s just guesswork.

“The worst thing is you’re winning bloody tournaments as well. If I was getting pumped every round playing like that it would be an easy decision to make. It’s the only thing I’ve known. It’s my job and it’s all I know. So I’ve struggled with it.

“I definitely need a break at least. It’s been happening like this for 25 or 30 years, so it’s not anything different. It’s a struggle. The worst thing is I’m winning bloody tournaments as well.
