Rishi Sunak hits out and says 'Boris asked me to do something I wasn't prepare to do'

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has broken his silence for the first time on the row over Boris Johnson and his attempted appointments to the House of Lords.

Speaking at London Tech Week, Mr Sunak revealed Boris Johnson asked him to “do something I wasn’t prepared to do”, namely overrule HOLAC.

HOLAC is the vetting body responsible for accepting those individuals nominated for peerages.

Mr Sunak bravely added that if people object to his approach to the row, it’s “tough”.
