'Ridiculous!' Trump ally hits back at claims the former president wants to 'destroy NATO'

A leading ally of Donald Trump has dismissed claims that he would destroy NATO as “ridiculous” and insisted he will revive the partnership instead.

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Express, former senior White House aide Sebastian Gorka described the interpretation of comments made by the 45th President of the USA as being “overblown”.

Trump had described in a campaign rally speech how he had told a NATO ally country that he would invite Russia to invade if they did not pay their fair share of defence.

The remarks caused panic among EU countries and in Britain with fears he would abandon NATO if he wins back the White House.

But Dr Gorka said the suggestion was nonsense.

“And when it comes to Ukraine, it’s not hyperbole, the war will end within 48 hours of him coming to the office.

“He will tell Zelensky I know you’ve lost Crimea, I know you’ve lost Donbas, you must negotiate. Let’s stop the killing. And then he’s going to tell Putin you will sit down now with Zelensky or I’m going to give even more weapons to Ukraine, and more Russians will die. And you will be even more unpopular.”

He also pointed to the fact that when Trump was President and had been told of Russian Wagner troops in the Middle East and North Africa causing mayhem, he ordered them to be killed.

“Within four hours, our guys had whacked 300 Russian troops in Syria. What did Putin do? He didn’t even hold a press conference. He didn’t even complain. He’s afraid. [of Trump].”
