Residents 'unaccounted for' after huge fire rips through takeaway billowing smoke

People are missing after a “fierce” fire at a restaurant near a 110-year-old cinema in West Yorkshire. Fire crews are tackling the blaze at Mangos takeaway in Keighley alongside other emergency services.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were in North Street where a fire at a takeaway spread to flats above.

The service added: “Flats have been evacuated but we still have persons unaccounted for. Motorists are being advised to stay away from the area.”

A spokesperson for the service said there have been no casualties.

The scene was closed off to the public at the corner of Alice Street and Mornington Street.

The fire itself was yards away from Picture House Keighley, which wrote on Twitter: “Due to the fierce fire at Mangos on North Street, we have been told for safety we cannot open the building.

“We hope to be open in time for the 4:40pm showing of Asteroid City and the 4:45pm screening of Elemental today.”
