Infamous Remain campaigner Steve Bray has reacted with fury after Manchester’s police proved less tolerant of his noisy protesting than London’s.
A series of videos published to his social media, filmed by a sidekick, show Steve Bray passionately rowing with a superintendent after being told “how and where we can protest”.
Sensibly the top copper is heard telling Mr Bray that while he has a right to protest he must do so in the town square, where a pen has been set up for small protests.
The no-nonsense bobby told Mr Bray he couldn’t protest on a traffic island nor use his microphone in the spot he’d set up camp.
He calmly explained to the top hat-wearing loudmouth that he could not protest in a traffic island, despite protestations from Mr Bray and his crew that they always do so in central Westminster.
He was told: “You’re causing a public nuisance, people are complaining”.
Mr Bray refused to agree to protest in the designated area like everyone else, repeatedly shouting at the police officer that “this is not Russia”.
The unemployed Remainer was told he could not play loud music anywhere, despite years of annoying Westminster with his loudspeakers.
He was warned that continuing to flout protesting rules he would leave himself “liable to arrest” and his speakers “could be seized”.
Mr Bray refused to collaborate with the officer, accusing him of “shutting down what we do”.
He furiously shouted at the officer: “You are telling us where we can protest, what we can do when we protest, that is not a protest! That is a police state!”
The officer explained he couldn’t protest at the traffic island because: “You’ve got businesses here, there’ll all be open tomorrow, it’s not acceptable, this is going to be really busy tomorrow”.
One of Mr Bray’s companions shouted that the officer should support his hated protests, as he’s “trying to help you” in the face of Tory cuts.
Police eventually walked away, to shouts of “leave this guy alone”.
