The Duchess of Sussex has recently been spotted without her engagement ring – which has heightened already growing rumours that her five-year marriage to Prince Harry is on the rocks.
The couple wed in May 2018, less than two years after first meeting during the summer of 2016.
The couple’s whirlwind romance sparked the interest of the media, but Meghan’s latest move has sparked interest for the opposite reason – whether or not the couple are headed for a separation.
Despite this, one commentator has explained that she thinks the real reason behind Meghan’s decision to be without her sparkly jewel is miles away from what has been so far speculated.
Commentator Judith Woods wrote: “Here’s the thing; maybe, just maybe, Meghan is simply very cross with Harry. No biggie.”
Taking to her column for the Daily Telegraph, Ms Woods added, speaking of her own experience and wondering if Meghan suffered the same: “Why did I remove it? And fling it away? Because (my husband) was being not just a little annoying, but a lot and a lot and a lot. Then I couldn’t find it again. Out of curiosity, I waited for him to react in dismay.
“I’m not judging your motivations. Taking off a ring is a bit of a statement – a statement which, in my case, nobody noticed. Especially not my husband. For three and a half years.”
She added her husband was not angry when he was told and instead took her to the jewellery shop to buy a new one. She said: “It was very definitely an upgrade on the original silver one bought in a hurry for less than 20 quid.”
Ms Woods joked maybe the duchess had also taken off her £140,000 ring and now couldn’t find it: “So Meghan, if you did take it off for whatever reason and have lost your Markle sparkle, you are not alone.
“Just ‘fess up to Harry. He’ll definitely buy you a new one as it’s a first offence, the whole ‘is she… isn’t she” speculation will stop and Harmony (see what I did there?) will be well and truly restored.”
