Rapist on the run sparks huge manhunt as police issue 'do not approach' alert

A huge manhunt is underway to track down a convicted rapist who has vanished since the courts released him on bail. Muarug Abraham Gebremcal was convicted of rape at Exeter Crown Court in September.

He was due to report in to police during this period prior to his sentencing, something he has not done. Now, he is wanted for breaching his court bail conditions. Detective Sergeant Hannah Spencer said: “We are urgently trying to locate Gebremcal and are appealing to anyone who may know where he is.”

Issuing a description, Det Sgt Spencer added: “Originally from Eritrea, he is described as a black male, 6ft tall, of a slim build with black afro hair and brown eyes. However, it is suspected that Gebremcal may have now changed his appearance by shaving his head.

“He has a distinct tattoo of a male figure on his lower left arm and is known to ride a black bicycle which may be a CARERRA X GO type.”

“Gebremcal has family links to Plymouth, Birmingham, and London,” she added. “However, he could be anywhere in the UK.”

Anyone with information, or spots Gebremcal, is urged not to approach him. People should instead call 999 quoting reference 50230269135. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
