Rafael Nadal provides worrying update with Spaniard likely to skip another event

Rafael Nadal admits he may not be fit enough to play the ATP Qatar Open next week as the Spaniard works his way back from injury. Despite his latest setback, Nadal has his sights firmly set on competing at Indian Wells during what is shaping up to be his farewell season in professional tennis.

“I’ve had some discomfort these last few weeks and I’m a little pushed to my limit,” said Nadal in an interview set to be broadcast this evening (Wednesday), according to Relevo. “At this point, every issue, every injury, is a setback not only in the tennis and in the physical, but also in the mental.

“I am 100 per cent confident in being in Indian Wells, it is a very special tournament for me. I don’t know if it’s going to be the last time I’m going to play it, but there are options that yes, so I would like to be in Indian Wells.

“I would love to be in Doha, but Doha is very soon after the injury. I see the Doha decision more at the last minute. About Indian Wells, if there’s no issues before then, I’m going to travel there.

“My priority goal, which is what I said from the beginning, is to reach the clay season at least as healthy as possible. I want to try to give me the option of enjoying that clay season.”
