Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz are charging nearly £120,000 for private tennis sessions in Las Vegas next month, it has been revealed. The pair are set to compete in the upcoming Netflix Slam, which will be hosted by MGM Resorts and broadcast exclusively live on the streaming service.
The event will see Nadal face Alcaraz in a one-off match at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. The add-on experiences offered by MGM Resorts have raised eyebrows due to the staggering fees involved, with fans being charged a fortune to play with the Spanish duo.
Private tennis sessions with Nadal or Alcaraz, which are already sold out on the resort’s official website, are priced at an eye-watering £118,054 each. Alternatively, a joint group session with the pair is available for £39,361 per person.
The duo’s prices are considerably higher than other players offering similar services as part of the Netflix Slam event. A group session with Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe costs £19,680, while sessions with John Isner and Sam Querrey are priced at £1,574 per person.
Serena Williams’ former coach Patrick Mouratoglou had a tongue-in-cheek reaction to the high fees being charged by Nadal and Alcaraz as he shared his thoughts on X, formerly Twitter. The 53-year-old, who was previously criticised for charging more than £5,900 for one-on-one sessions, wrote: “I found more expensive than me!”
It seems that next month’s exhibition in Las Vegas will go ahead as planned despite Nadal and Alcaraz having suffered injuries since the start of the year. Nadal has not played since January, when he was knocked out of the Brisbane International after tearing a muscle in his hip.
Alcaraz, meanwhile, rolled his ankle while playing against Thiago Monteiro in Rio de Janeiro last month before retiring from the match. The next day, he confirmed that he would be facing Nadal in Las Vegas after a scan revealed that his ankle problem was not serious.
On Instagram, he wrote: “I just had an MRI on my ankle after yesterday’s injury. After the meeting with my doctor and my physiotherapists the diagnosis is a Grade II lateral sprain. I have a sprain that will keep me out for a few days! See you in Las Vegas and Indian Wells.”
Nadal and Alcaraz have only played each other on three previous occasions, with the former winning twice. Their last meeting came in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open in 2022 as Alcaraz edged the deciding set to claim the spoils over his fellow Spaniard.
