Queen was 'sad' but 'not surprised' when Harry decided to step back as working royal

Prince Harry has said his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, was “sad” but not surprised when he decided to step back from his role as a senior working royal.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, discussed his decision with Michael Strahan on ABC News ahead of his memoir being released today.

Mr Strahan asked if the Queen, who died aged 96 in September last year, was angry about his choice to leave.

“No. My grandmother and I had a very good relationship. It was never a surprise to anybody, least of all her,” he said.

He continued: “She knew what was going on. She knew how hard it was.

“She never said to me that she was angry. I think she was sad that it got to that point.”
