Queen Elizabeth II gave Meghan Markle a gift so they could match

Queen Elizabeth II died a year ago today, and the anniversary has prompted reflection from many. No doubt The Duchess is not in the UK with Prince Harry marking the anniversary, instead staying at home in California with their two children.

However, the former actress and the Monarch did once have a sweet relationship, the Queen giving the American the “warmest welcome” into the Royal Family.

As part of this royal welcome, the Queen gave Meghan Markle a special replica of a pair of her favourite pearl and diamond earrings, often lending the originals to Kate Middleton.

A month after Megan married into the family, the Queen and new Duchess of Sussex took their first solo trip together, where Meghan was gifted the earrings.

The two travelled about 200 miles away from London to connect with community leaders.

Meghan wore the pair of elegant earrings to the Queen’s casket ceremony in London last year, which came two years after Meghan and Harry renounced their royal duties and left the family.

The earrings Meghan was given are based on earrings referred to as the Queen Mary button stud earrings.

They were given to the Queen as a wedding gift from her grandmother Queen Mary.

Kate Middleton now wears the original pair, and wore them today to mark the anniversary of the Queen’s death.

For the occasion, she wore a burgundy coat dress and a matching hat.

The coat dress had structured shoulders and a nipped-in waist which created an hourglass shape and accentuated the royal’s fabulous figure.
