Queen Camilla’s son visits a Krispy Kreme drive thru and the results are hilarious

Queen Camilla’s son, Tom Parker Bowles, is a British food writer and critic who is known for reviewing Michelin-starred restaurants but his most recent review was for a Krispy Kreme drive-thru in Enfield, London.

Krispy Kreme first set up and opened in North Carolina in the USA in 1937, and now has become a household name in Britain, opening its first UK shop in luxury department store Harrods in 2003.

Mr Parker Bowles believes the doughnut is becoming “another American addition to the British culinary landscape”

Writing in the Daily Mail, the 49-year-old food critic, decided to try a few sweet doughnuts on a warm spring day and as a result had an “outer-body experience” when trying the delicacy. He stated: “At noon, the Enfield Krispy Kreme drive-thru is deserted – unlike the McDonalds across the car park. Still, the store itself is doing good business, as folks wander out, clutching those instantly recognisable boxes.”

Mr Parker Bowles visited a completely empty drive-thru to pick up a box, where the employee told him the eatery is normally packed at night with customers wanting hot Krispy Kremes fresh out of the oven.

Patiently waiting and ready to order “a dozen of the sugar glazed beauties”, the food critic gave the order full marks for the speed of service as he got his hands on a box straight away.

Parker Bowles warned readers to stay well away from one particular doughnut in his tongue-in-cheek review: “I recommend staying well clear from the pink-hued Pretty Little Unicorn, a variety so violently sugary that it provokes an outer-body experience not seen in these parts since the Enfield poltergeist.”

Despite the negative review of the pink sweet treat, Parker Bowles calls the Original Glazed doughnut “one of the best doughnuts on earth” and “worth the drive”, but warned readers to stay clear of the coffee which had the charm of “hot ditch water”.

The review was an unusual choice for Queen Camilla’s son who has recently unveiled the launch of his brand-new royal book – one with a surprising twist.

The 49-year-old has revealed that his new book – ‘Cooking and The Crown’ will be released on September 26, 2024. According to an article posted by The Bookseller, the book will feature 100 recipes.

Mr Parker-Bowles, who is also the monarch’s godson, has been a food writer for over 20 years and is already the author of eight food-related books.

Tom tweeted: “Well, they say write about what you (sort of) know … my new book, Cooking and the Crown. Royal Recipes From Queen Victoria to Charles III.”

As well as being an author, Tom serves as a restaurant critic at the Mail on Sunday and food editor at Esquire.
