Queen Camilla shares favourite holiday destination is 'fantastic for an island escape'

Queen Camilla has travelled all over the world as part of her royal role, but there’s one particular destination she holds very close to her heart.

In conversation with You Magazine, written by food writer, food critic and Camilla’s own son Tom Parker Bowles, Camilla took a deep dive into her life in food.

Camilla’s childhood was filled with food many youngsters enjoy – frozen chicken pie, garden grown veggies and an assortment of puddings – but on holiday she was able to sample some more exotic cuisine.

She told the magazine: “Every year, we went on holiday to the island of Ischia, just off Naples.

“There were endless lunches of vitello al limone [veal escalope with lemon], fried zucchini, lots of fresh fish and pasta. It instilled a lifelong passion for Italian food.”

The Queen loved this holiday destination so much that she even took her own children there later in life.

Ischia is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples, Italy. According to Rough Guides, it’s “fantastic for an island escape”.

“Located in the Bay of Naples, and neighbour to busy Capri — this destination is an underrated gem.”

For those who want a quieter escape, the travel brand called Ischia a “crowd-free” destination.

It’s home to beautiful volcanic springs, the picturesque Aragonese Castle – complete with a scenic bar up top – the Monte Epomeo volcano and subtropical garden La Mortella.

Rough Guides also recommended visitors check out Lacco Ameno, the “prettiest” town in Ischia.

Described as a “bright little town”, it boasts a beach, spa waters, mud baths and thermal baths.
