The Queen was also known for her devotion to horses and riding, and kept up with the sport until well into her 90s.
Camilla said to the assembled schoolchildren on their third day of the royal tour: “I used to have horses I rode but sadly I don’t ride any longer.”
However the Mail on Sunday revealed that while on the trip Her Majesty still kept in touch with her stables, even watching a video of one of her horses giving birth.
She added: “I think I’m too old but I have race horses. Last night I watched on my screen one of the foals being born, which was very exciting.”
King Charles is also an acomplished horse rider, however he does not share the same deep affection for the sport that his wife and mother have.
This is why Camilla has taken over the day-to-day running of the Queen’s stables, according to a royal insider.
The Queen Consort is now in charge of maintaining the relationships with the late Queen’s trainers and overseeing the stables.

John Warren, the late Queen’s Royal bloodstock and racing advisor, has previously said that it is Camilla and not Charles who has the greatest passion for horses.
He said: “He has always followed it, but it has been his mother’s interest so it has been at arm’s length. He owns a few horses himself, in particular with the [then] Duchess of Cornwall. She is absolutely besotted by racing.”
The Queen Consort was said to be “very sorry” when she was unable to attend the 40th anniversary celebration of the British Racing School at Newmarket last month due to poor weather.
She is also associated with a number of equestrian charities, including the Ebony Horse Club, the British Equestrian Federation and the Brooke Hospital for Animals.
Te Queen Consort has often spoken about her childhood spent riding ponies along with her love of reading.
In a recent interview with Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho, Camilla said: “I think I have to admit, in the end, I ended up probably being a sort of pony-mad child with Black Beauty, which I howled over, night after night after night.”
While in Germany on her first official overseas visit as monarch, Camilla joined illustrator Axel Scheffler to share the iconic story of The Gruffalo with schoolchildren in Hamburg.
The Queen Consort also told the children that her hobbies were gardening, reading and swimming in the sea.
