Queen Camilla poised to replace King Charles at key event in France

Queen Camilla may replace King Charles at the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in France.

The Firm is making preparations for the Queen to represent Britain at the international ceremony in Normandy on June 6 if the King is too ill to attend, according to reports.

King Charles is believed to be keen to attend the event, but the monarch may have to concede he is too unwell to travel or be advised by his doctors not to make the trip, according to The Sun.

Prince William would also likely be present at the event where Camilla would take centre stage alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and US President Joe Biden.

Camilla has stood in for King Charles at a number of events since Buckingham Palace confirmed in February that he had been diagnosed with cancer. The King’s cancer treatment is said to be going well.

The Queen presented Maundy money to community stalwarts in recognition of their service at Worcester Cathedral, standing in for King Charles at the historic Royal Maundy Service on Thursday (March 28).

Sources have said King Charles feels “very proud” of Camilla, believing she has done “a wonderful job”.

In his most significant public appearance since his cancer diagnosis, King Charles smiled and waved at crowds as he arrived for the Easter Mattins Service alongside Queen Camilla on Easter Sunday morning.

The King shook hands and spoke with those who had gathered at Windsor and told them: “You’re very brave to stand out here in the cold.”

Sunday’s service was a smaller version of the annual gathering, with fewer members of the Royal Family attending, as the King has paused public-facing duties while he continues his treatment for cancer.
