Queen Camilla confided in Princess Kate on the secret to ‘hanging onto a prince’

Queen Camilla gave Princess Kate the secret to “hanging on to a prince” during the early days of her relationship with Prince William it has been revealed.

The Duke and Dutchess of Cambridge have now been married for more than 10 years, but during the early days of their relationship Kate was not as confident as she is today and struggled to listen to the advice of her mother-in-law.

While the pair were studying at St Andrews University, the current Queen was on hand to give them some advice according to royal author Robert Lacey.

In his biography, Battle of Brothers, Lacey said the Queen told Kate what she had to do to ensure her marriage worked.

Lacey wrote: “Camilla had confided to Kate the secret of hanging on to a busy prince: fit your timetable – well, basically your whole life – around his.”

But Kate was unable to take the advice as William’s diary was “un-fit-roundable” as after graduation he was thrown into his royal duties, while Kate was reportedly left on the sidelines.

Lacey said this left Kate to carry out a new plan.

He added: “While Kate’s medium-to-long-term objective was quite simple – to lead William in handcuffs to the altar – for the time being, she had to devise her own independent career path as camouflage.

“This was a matter of both personal and public tactics. In neither respect would it help Ms Middleton to appear the slightest bit needy – and of course there was the ultimate unthinkable possibility that she might end up getting dumped.”

And it appears the tactic worked as the pair have now been by each other’s side for 20 years, with their wedding at Westminster Abbey watched by almost 37 million people across the UK.

Recently, the couple visited the Scottish Highlands, where they are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay.
