The Qatar Grand Prix returns for the first time since 2021 this weekend and in some style. The Lusail Circuit has undergone some striking renovations, while Max Verstappen can secure his third consecutive World Championship on Saturday.

With this weekend ushering in the return of sprint race action, Verstappen has the chance to collect the three points he needs to secure the World Championship before the Grand Prix even gets underway. Three points on Saturday is all he needs to retain his crown for 2023.

As F1 prepares for just its second-ever visit to Qatar, Express Sport are on hand to keep you up to date with all of the details you need to know as Verstappen goes in search of his championship. 

Qatar Grand Prix schedule and UK start time

This weekend’s schedule will look slightly different as the sprint race format returns for the first time since the Belgian Grand Prix took place in the summer. However, things will get underway in the traditional fashion with FP1 kicking off the action on Friday at 2.30pm BST.

Qualifying will follow on Friday evening with the drivers competing for to set the grid for Sunday at 6pm. On Saturday we will witness the return of the sprint shootout at 2pm with the sprint race following at 6.30pm.

The main event is scheduled for 6pm on Sunday afternoon where Verstappen will get his second shot at securing the title if he hasn’t already sealed the deal during Saturday’s sprint race. 

Qatar Grand Prix weather forecast

While fans have been treated to plenty of wet-weather action so far this season, the chances of seeing that this weekend are close to zero. With the Lusail International Circuit located in the Doha desert, drivers can expect searing hot temperatures.

Qualifying, the sprint race and the Qatar GP will all take place in the evening with air temperatures scheduled to be in the region of 32 degrees, according to Met Office forecasts. FP1 and the sprint shootout will take place in the early afternoon with temperatures reaching as high as 39 degrees on Saturday.

For British F1 fans, Sky Sports will be the go-to destination for this weekend’s Qatar Grand Prix. They will show the race on the dedicated Sky Sports F1 channel, as well as Sky Sports Main Event. Those without a Sky subscription can still watch the race if they purchase a Now TV day pass, which will set you back £10. 

International fans can watch the race with a subscription to the F1 TV platform, which grants fans access to a host of data as well as a live stream of the race. Alternatively, fans will be able to watch via their country’s domestic broadcaster.
